Longs paid for most of it. More than $1.54 billion of crypto positions were liquidated by Friday morning, about $1.29 billion of them longs, Bitcoin.com News reported, as bitcoin dropped to a multiweek low of $76,320 before bouncing to $78,400 at 2:03 a.m. Eastern. Bitcoin liquidations alone neared $500 million, up from under $99 million about 12 hours earlier, $405 million of it longs, and ether longs lost more than $300 million. Hyperliquid's HYPE was the lone outlier, rising about 20% toward a new high and squeezing $19.65 million of shorts. From $78,400, the year-end math has moved. Reaching $100,000 by the end of December 31 now takes a 27.6% gain over 63 days, about 0.387% a day or 2.74% a week, compounded. Getting back to the $83,500 monthly open takes 6.5%, and $90,000 takes 14.8%. This is arithmetic, not a forecast.
