How the numbers are worked out

The move needed is the target divided by the current price, minus one. The per day and per week figures are compound rates: the steady gain that, repeated every day or every week until the date you picked, lands exactly on the target. A negative number means the target sits below today's price.

Reading them against real movement

The average daily move is the mean size of bitcoin's day-to-day change in closing price over the last 30, 90 and 365 completed days, ignoring direction. Bitcoin never moves in a straight line, so a required daily rate that is small next to the average daily move describes a target within the range of normal daily swings in size, though not in direction. This page does not say whether any target will be reached.

A note on the data

Prices come from Bitstamp's public market data, with Gemini as a backup, requested by your browser. The ticker at the top of the site uses a different provider, so the two can differ slightly. Days are counted to the end of the chosen date in UTC. The all-time high row uses the highest daily high in the price history this page loads from the same source. This is a reference tool, not a forecast, and nothing here is investment advice. The operators of this site may hold positions in assets covered here.
