Bitcoin opened at $83,624.79 Wednesday, close to flat against Tuesday, and moved to $83,767 by 7:17 a.m. ET, holding a solid monthly gain on the last day of September. CoinGlass data puts the record in context: Bitcoin closed September red in eight of the thirteen years from 2013 through 2025, including six straight from 2017 to 2022, and September's average return of negative 2.34% is still the worst of any month. The last three have gone the other way, up 3.91% in 2023, 7.29% in 2024 and 5.16% in 2025, and 2026 now makes four.
